Letter to editor - Farrell
To the Editor, While traveling from North Carolina to visit family in Kentucky, my husband and I pulled off the highway at the Pilot Mountain exit for lunch. We proceeded on our way when two hours later I realized I had lost my wallet at our stop. We were both so upset, but phone calls to the place where we had eaten turned up nothing. Fortunately we had set up our home phone to transfer all calls to my cell pihone, because two days later...

To the Editor,
To the Editor, What has happened to common sense? After reading the Wednesday paper about the grant for a park in Dobson, my stomach has been upset. I am not a residence of Dobson but of Surry County. I can not believe that anyone would even consider a 2.2 acre park that has the potential to cost close to a million dollars. I know that a grant is suppose to cover half of it but if I was on the market for a house and I found a million doll...

To the Editor,
To the Editor, The current state of affairs on the so-called “Gun Control” issues is sickening. Any civil discussion of the issue is almost impossible to have. To the Editor, One of the basic responsibilities of all citizens is to vote. So why in the world are state lawmakers trying to pass bill after bill that will make it harder to vote? Our electoral system is working beautifully as it is and North Carolina should be proud of the increases in voter turn-out in recent years. Lawmakers, on the other hand, should be ashamed of the measures they are now taking to keep voters from voting. Among ...

To the Editor,
To the Editor, Recently reported in the Raleigh News & Observer: “Rep. Sarah Stevens, a former District Court judge and a Republican from Mount Airy, successfully got one black speaker cut off when he began talking about the history of the black vote. She said he was off the topic of the voter ID bill.” (Rob Christensen, 4/24/2013). I don’t know what the speaker said before being cut off by Rep. Stevens, and I don’t know what he might hav...
