Home destroyed in Thursday morning fire

The cause of a Thursday morning house fire is still under investigation by Surry County Fire Marshal’s office inspectors. According to Fire Inspector Jason Burkholder, no firefighters or civilians were hurt in connection with the blaze.Burkholder said the call for the fire was received at 8 a.m. for the single story modular home located at 107 Country Mist Lane in the Holly Springs area. He said firefighters responded to the blaze minutes after the call was received and credited an unidentified neighbor with discovering the fire, knocking on the door to wake up the family and making a 911 call to alert authorities.

 

Sheriff: Deputy acted properly

• A Mount Airy man has been charged with cyberstalking, according to city police department reports. Nathan Dean Wray, 24, of 138 New Cedar Lane was served with a criminal summons on the charge that was issued on April 7 with Howard Thomas Nelson, a resident of Cedar Ridge Place, as the complainant. No details were listed concerning the alleged violation, for which Nelson is to appear in Surry District Court on May 9.
