North Surry’s volleyball team moved one step closer to making another Western Piedmont Athletic Conference title official on Thursday evening.
The Lady Greyhounds (14-4) improved their perfect slate in WPAC matches to 6-0 with a 25-17, 25-8, 25-14 straight-set win over county rival Surry Central, completing a season sweep of the Lady Eagles.
North Surry leads second-place Forbush (15-5, 7-1) by one game in the loss column with a rematch against the Lady Falcons scheduled to take place in the regular-season finale on Oct. 13. North defeated Forbush in straight sets on East Bend on Sept. 27.
Against Central, junior Mikaela Johnson dominated up front, with 17 kills and only two errors in her 25 kill attempts. Paige Sizemore had nine kills and 12 digs, while Whitney Hall had four kills and six aces. Dixie Fulk had 36 assists and 12 digs, while Maggie Hawks led the team with 14 digs.
Taylor Coe led Surry Central with six kills. Sarah Ford had nine kills and seven assists, while Tara Blevins had eight digs, and Brooke Snow tallied six assists.
Both teams will compete today in the Rivals United showcase at Mount Airy High School.
