East Surry Little League, of Pilot Mountain, has moved to within a game of winning the Southeastern regional 9-10 championship.
East Surry has won all four games so far in the 2015 Tournament of State Champions. The team will play for the title today at 11 a.m. against Virginia, which also has gone 4-0 so far this week.
In the semifinals, the North Carolina state champions left little doubt about the final result as they scored 10 times in the first inning against Martinsburg Little League of West Virginia.
The local team continued to pour it on, scoring three to four runs in each of the next four innings for an easy 20-2 win over the West Virginia state representative.
Luke Bowman led North Carolina with four hits including a homer. Birthday boy Matthew Keener had two hits including a bases-clearing double in the 10-run first.
Folger Boaz, Luke Brown, Anthony Ayers, Brett Clayton, Jordan Davis and Will Jones also added a couple of hits each. Connor Key added a hit to round out the North Carolina attack.
Starting pitcher Jordan Davis went two scoreless innings to get the win for North Carolina. Anthony Ayers recorded the final six outs of the game shortened to 4 innings by mercy rule.
The North Carolina champs will take on Loudoun South Little League of Virginia in the TOSC Championship game.
Loudoun won its first three games by a combined 39-9. but didn’t have it easy in the semifinal.
The Virginia champion edged Plant City, the Florida champion, 7-6.
Virginia scored in every inning but the fifth.
The game was knotted at 4-4 after three but Virginia pulled ahead with a three-run fourth.
