n The Mount Airy Police Department is investigating a case of obtaining property by false pretenses in which a local post office was victimized.

A “known” suspect is said to have bought a large quantity of stamps this past week from the Toast Post Office on West Pine Street, using two counterfeit checks. The person left the premises with the stamps and the crime was not discovered until later, according to police records that provided no value for the loss.

n Carl Paul Davenport of Hamburg Street told police Wednesday that property had been stolen that day from his 2000 Ford Explorer while at Sav-A-Lot Food Store on U.S. 52. Medication tablets were taken from the unlocked vehicle, with the amount of the loss not listed.

The case remains open for further investigation.
