The theatrical performance will bring to life the popular fairly tale that takes audiences back in time to a beautiful French provincial town, where the father of stunning and charming Belle is held captive by the seemingly cruel Beast. Belle trades her freedom for her father, and soon an unlikely love develops between monster and lady in his castle.
The 1991 animated family film version of the fairy tale was the recipient of several awards including 3 Golden Globes, 4 Grammies, 2 Oscars and a slew of others.
Joey Marion is set to direct this play filled with song and dance. Roles are available for ages 10 and up, with primary roles for older teenagers and adults. Strong male actors who can sing and dance are especially encouraged to audition.
Those planning to attend auditions should bring 16 bars of song ready to sing, with sheet music if possible, and be prepared to read from the script and perform a few dance steps. Comfortable attire is encouraged.
Although some of the roles are primarily singing or dancing, those who lack experience in either can still audition. There will be call-backs on Jan. 6 following initial auditions. Anyone interested in helping backstage or in playing in the orchestra should also come to auditions to sign-up.
Performance dates for Beauty and the Beast are March 13, 14, and 15. For more information, please contact the Surry Arts Council at 786-7998.
