North Surry’s girls basketball team used two big runs to take a dominant halftime lead over visiting Starmount Wednesday. The Lady Hounds then coasted to a 59-25 win.

Morgan Midkiff led the way from the outside, while Kristina Rumplasch took charge inside. Midkiff hit a three-pointer and a 16-footer while Rumplasch had two inside goals as North Surry started the game with a 14-0 run.

After Starmount answered with an 8-2 run over the next two minutes, the Greyhounds held the Rams to just one free throw for the rest of the half, an 18-1 run to make the halftime score 34-11.

Midkiff had an 18-footer and a layup in that run, while Rumplasch made a drive to the basket for one hoop and got to the free throw line. Rumplasch finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Midkiff had 15 points, six steals, six assists and five rebounds. Emily Culler, coming off a team-high 16 points in a win over Bishop McGuinness Tuesday, finished with eight.

Seven of the Lady Hounds were on the volleyball team that lost to Starmount in the playoffs last month, and a couple of those Rams were on the floor Wednesday.

North Surry also won Tuesday night, defeating Bishop McGuiness 46-34.
