One would never expect to see much of a traffic jam on a local side street in Mount Airy, but the Christmas decorations put up by one man have become quite the attraction.
Bob Greene Jr. and his father, Bob Greene Sr., started putting up their Christmas decorations just before Thanksgiving. The Greene’s have a love of Christmas inflatable decorations they love to share with others.
At their home at 412 Pippin St., the Greenes have a tiny front yard, so their extensive inflatable collection expanded into neighbor’s yards.
Right now, the Greenes have 18 inflatables ranging from a huge Grinch to a helicopter being flown by Santa Claus lining the lower end of Pippin Street.
The inflatables have become quite the attraction Bob Greene Jr. said, as he watched yet another car drive slowly by Friday afternoon to check out the display.
Greene had to use 42 extension cords. Three of those are 300 feet long. And even though the inflatables are extended into three neighbor’s yards, the whole collection is pulled into Greene’s home. He said his power bill goes up quite a bit this time of year, but it’s worth it to celebrate Christmas.
“I just do it to get into the Christmas spirit,” said Bob Greene Jr.
