East Surry and North Surry finished second and third in the Northwest 1A/2A Conference golf tournament Monday.
Just like last week’s regular-season finale, Bishop McGuinness finished well ahead of the pack, but the Cardinals and Greyhounds were the next best teams.
During the regular season, teams play just nine holes, but for this tournament, players faced all 18 holes at the par-72 Cross Creek County Club.
East Surry Coach Jason Anderson said both Bishop and East have qualified for the 1A regional playoffs to be held at Piney Point Golf Course in Norwood, which is just south of Albemarle.
North Surry finishes as the conference’s best 2A school, but playoff details were not available at press time.
Like last week, Bishop was led by its stellar top three, who all finished in the top five individually.
Second-seed William Whitacre shot an even-par 72 to take the top honors. First-seed Stanhope Johnson and third-seed Tanner Owen were tied for fourth with 77.
East’s Jordan Vogler was third with a 76, while Mount Airy’s Bailey Bouma was tied for sixth with a 78.
North’s Taylor Coalson and Mount Airy’s Cody Hodges were tied for eighth.
All-conference honors will be announced this week.
