Scattered showers caused Mount Airy to postpone the finals of the Northwest Conference tennis tournament Wednesday.

Rain fell before school let out, then returned later in the day to soak the courts again.

In between, the Bears team found an hour to practice, but their coaches agreed it was the right call.

The teams have to travel from a long way off, especially Bishop McGuinness from Kernersville. Coming such a long way when rain threatens isn’t very feasible, the coaches and Athletic Director Donald Price agreed.

While the finals are important, it’s the consolation matches that have the greatest ramifications.

Those in the finals of both the singles and doubles matches already have qualified for the state playoffs. Those in the consolation brackets must win in order to advance.

The weather forecast calls for scattered showers today, so the event again might not take place. However, tomorrow looks clear.
