MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Lois Vogler Shelton, 82, of Mount Airy, passed into the more immediate presence of the Lord, Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Shelton was known throughout the community for her caring and compassionate heart, not only for her family, who she loved so dearly, but also for everyone she came into contact with. She was a devoted member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and retired from the city of Mount Airy after more than 30 years of service. Surviving are a daughter, Lynda Shelton Terry and husband Dan; a son, John Quincy Shelton III and wife Andrea; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Raines Shelton; grandchildren, Kelley Dayle Wood, Jason Christopher Wood and wife Julie, John Quincy Shelton IV and wife Meghan, James Myron Shelton and wife Jaime, Adam Mitchell Shelton and wife Jessica and Thomas Matthew Shelton and wife Sarah and Bradley Edward Thomas; great-grandchildren, Cody Clarence Faria, Natalie Brooke Shelton, Breanne Lenore Shelton, Ethan Tony Shelton, Elijah Hayden Shelton, Connor Jameson Shelton, Emerson Quincy Shelton, Noah Duke Shelton and Vann Hamilton Shelton; sisters, Betty Vogler Houston and husband John, Peggy Vogler Sutphin and husband Gary, Patsy Vogler Paul and Gayle Vogler Riggs and husband, Dennis; brothers, Ronald Delano Vogler and wife Jane and Bobby Rogers Vogler; sisters-in-law, Effie Wall Vogler, Eva Wall Vogler, Rachel Andrews Vogler, Mattie Shelton Flippin and Barbara Jean Shelton; a brother-in-law, James Franklin Shelton and wife Lisa; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, John Quincy Shelton Jr.; sons, Kelly Dean Shelton, David Keith Shelton and Tony Dale Shelton; and brothers, Charles McKinney Vogler, Benjamin Tesla Vogler Sr., William Early Vogler and John Franklin Vogler. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, July 15, 2011, at Flat Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Bailey Nelson and Dr. Jon Cawley. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church at 1335 E.
