Elkin won a soccer rematch with Mount Airy 4-0 Tuesday evening.
The Bears beat the Elks 4-2 last week, but Coach Eric Leathers admitted afterward, “They outplayed us. They controlled the ball most of the game.”
Elkin then beat North Surry 6-1 Monday before facing the Bears again.
The visiting team led 1-0 at the half, then scored a second time about 5 minutes into the second period.
With 17 minutes to go, Mount Airy’s Will Pfitzner worked open and fired off a long kick that passed over the keeper’s hands. Unfortunately, the ball hit the cross bar and bounced off.
About a minute later, a Mount Airy player was attacking, but hit the ground. While fans were yelling for a whistle, Elkin took off the other way and scored in a one-on-one with the keeper to make it 3-0.
The Bears travel to Alleghany next Tuesday.
