WINSTON-SALEM — Surry Central’s tennis team beat Winston-Salem Prep 9-0, completing the season sweep.

Prep was the Central’s first opponent of the season on Aug. 18. Rain canceled that match after singles play.

The weather was perfect for Monday’s rematch, according to Coach Dennis Miller.

The Lady Phoenix didn’t win a single game in the first meeting, but took four during singles this time.

The top two seeds swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0: Hunter Marion over Keyala Searce and Savannah Wilson over Shay Michaux.

In the third spot, Kennedy Dockery won 6-1, 6-2 over Ashley Hicks. Fourth-seed Megan Gillespie won 6-0, 6-0 over Sherika Gore.

Marlee Wilmoth won 6-1, 6-0 over Keyla Fleming. Miller said he was proud of the improvements the freshman has made in her serve to go with her quick footwork.

At the sixth spot, Abby Samuels won 6-0, 6-0 over Stephanie Noble.

In double play, Wilmoth and Haley Hemric won 8-0 over Searce/Hicks. Mikayla Cox and Cassie Hoge won 8-0 over Michaux/Gore. Olivia Fowler and Salena Rubio beat Tracy Morris and Gina Anderson 8-0.

The Lady Eagles have another long road trip this afternoon, traveling to Bishop McGuinness.

In the first matchup, the Villains took the top three spots in singles by straight sets. Gillespie lost a close tiebreaker at the fourth spot, and Wilmoth and Samuels took the fifth and sixth matches.
