The Surry Arts Council will host a lecture by Professor Neal Brower today at 2 p.m. in the lower level of the Andy Griffith Museum.
In his lecture, Brower focuses on Episode 11, “The Christmas Story,” the only Christmas-related episode in “The Andy Griffith Show” series. This show aired on Dec. 19, 1960, and featured Margaret Kerry, who attended Mayberry Days this past year. Her family spends the night in jail — and there is a signature happy ending.
Through interviews with writers, directors, producers, actors and others associated with the show, Brower offers insights into the scriptwriting, production, photography, casting and musical scoring. Other lectures will be on “Big Fish in a Small Town” on March 10, and “Fun Girls” on April 14. Each lecture is $10. For reservations, call 786-7998 or email name and phone number to arts@surryarts.org, though walk-ins are welcome.
Neal Brower is a United Methodist minister, originally from Asheboro. He authored the book “Mayberry 101,” contributes regularly to “The Button” and teaches 10-week college-level courses about “The Andy Griffith Show.”
