CANA, Va. — Mrs. Okla Ovella Sawyers Easter, 89, of Cana, passed away at her daughter’s home on Friday, March 16, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Easter was born in Carroll County on Feb. 1, 1923, to Calvin E. and Florence Bonds Sawyers. She was a homemaker and a member of Skyview Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Easter loved to write poems and had written many for her children and grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mabelene and Don Beverly of Cana; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wade and Carolyn Easter of Mount Airy and Calvin Weldon and Mary Katharine Easter of Richmond; grandchildren, Tammy Lynn Stanley and husband, Charlie, Teresa Linnett Dickens and husband, Kenneth, Kenneth Easter Jr., Curtis Mundy and fiancée, Melissa Hawks, Tim Mundy, Katharine Ovella E. Ross and husband Johnny, John Easter and wife Ashley, Charles Easter and Michele Mundy; 22 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; and a brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Mamie Sawyers of Fancy Gap. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Easter was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Jacob Easter; a daughter, Flora Annabell Easter; a grandson, Gary Mundy; a great-great-grandchild, a stepgreat-grandchild; two sisters, Scioto Hawks and Bessie Sawyers; and two brothers, Weldon Sawyers and Calvin E. Sawyers Jr. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2012, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Wendell Horton. Burial will follow in Cana Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
