DOBSON — Mrs. Barbara Blevins Steele, 80, of Dobson, passed peacefully on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Joan & Edward Woltz Hospice Home, following an extended illness. Mrs. Steele was born on May 12, 1931, to the late Walter Hamilton and Beatrice Eddy Nance Blevins. She spent her entire life in the town, attending Dobson schools. After her graduation from high school, she married Windell (“Fireball”) Steele of the Poplar Springs community; the couple celebrated more than 53 years of marriage before Windell’s passing in 2003. Barbara most enjoyed laughing often during lively conversation, a hot cup of coffee, good homemade dessert and caring well for her loved ones. Although the couple had no children, they cherished spending time with their pets, Smokey, Wendy and Sandy. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Audrey Blevins; her brothers, Chester and Maurice Blevins; and three infant siblings. Surviving are two sisters, Muriel Hodges and Mary Nance Tuttle of Winston-Salem; many beloved nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and close friends that she loved and cherished. Mrs. Steele’s family will receive friends on Saturday, April 14, 2012, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Dobson First Baptist Church on South Crutchfield Street in Dobson, with burial to follow in the Franklin/Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Haystack Road, Mount Airy.
