PILOT MOUNTAIN — The East Surry tennis team bested Surry Central 6-3 on Tuesday.
The Cardinals defeated the Eagles in four of six singles’ matches. East’s top seed, Tyler Yandell downed Luke Haymore in three sets, 6-7, 7-6 and 10-1. Fourth seed Brody Gentry scored a victory over Eagle Alex Fowler in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Cardinal Austin Johnson downed Cory Smith in two sets, 6-1, 6-3. Andrew Zachman had a victory over Trenton Day in the sixth seeded singles game, 6-1, 5-7 and 11-9.
Central’s Colby Chilton defeated Cody Moser in the second seeded match, 6-0, 6-2. Eagle Zach Wilmoth scored a win over Cory Smith in three sets, 3-6, 6-7 and 1-7, in a tiebreaker.
In doubles matches, East captured the second and third seeded matches. Moser and Johnson defeated Fowler and Smith 10-2. Gentry and Zachman downed Wilmoth and Day in the third seed, 8-1. Central won the top seeded doubles match as Haymore and Chilton bested Yandell and Smith, 1-8.
Surry Central is scheduled to play at Bishop McGuinness on Thursday.
