Ms. Vertie Lou Bateman Hubbard, 75 of Mount Airy passed away at Northern Hospital of Surry County on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Ms. Hubbard was born on September 1, 1936 in Patrick County to the late Monroe Clyde and Oma Agnes Sawyers Bateman. She retired from Bassett Furniture and was of the Baptist Faith. Ms. Hubbard is survived by a daughter, Donna Kay Hubbard of Mt. Airy; a son, Dennis Ray Hubbard of Mt. Airy; former daughter-in-law and friend, Becky Hubbard of Mount Airy; grandchildren and spouse, Torrance and Jamie Hubbard and Destiny Hubbard; great-grandchildren, Evann Jones and Grayson Hubbard; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lorraine and Wade Moore, Bonnie Mellor all of Mount Airy, Leah and Rex Davis of Pilot Mountain; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Carol Bateman of Mount Airy and Mike and Vivian Bateman of Weaverville, NC; her faithful pet and friend, Jack. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hubbard was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Dean Hubbard. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Homer Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Garden.
