SPARTA — The Lady Bears bounced back from a tough loss on Tuesday to beat Alleghany 5-2 on Wednesday.

Mount Airy lost a close game to Bishop just the day before, but didn’t show any signs of a hangover against the Lady Trojans.

Coach Will Hurley said he was a little worried about a sluggish start, but the girls came out smoking with four goals in the first 20 minutes.

Co-captain Lindsay Castevens scored the first two goals in a three-minute segment between the 12th and 15th minutes.

Then Summer Hamilton scored on a nice shot from the outside. Hamilton assisted on the fourth goal, a cross back to the center that Abigail Pedraza finished.

The 4-0 lead lasted through halftime.

With about 10 minutes gone in the second half, Castevens finished off a hat trick by nailing a penalty kick after a hand-ball ruling in the box.

Later in the game, Hurley subbed freely, and the Trojans scored two late goals for the final margin.

He praised the hard effort of Andi Moore, Beasley Nester and Vanessa Armenta all over the field.

On defense, Hannah Hall was good, and Marissa Petri came up big with more than 20 clears. Keeper Morgan Hawks had seven goal saves.
