The Surry Storm fourth-grade team has won two recent tournaments. One of the Surry Storm AAU basketball teams recently took two first-place finishes in tournaments.
The fourth-grade girls team came out on top in a regional tournament in Kernersville and also in the YBOA Regional Tournament in Wilkesboro.
This group of girls came together a year ago and have played in many tournaments since then. The squad has gone 107-10 since forming under head coach Britt Wright and assistants Stewart Boyer and Mack Hodges.
This July, the Storm are planning to compete in a national championship tournament in Orlando.
To help pay travel expenses, the team has planned some fundraising activities.
Players and parents are selling assorted candy bars for a dollar, organizing a benefit golf tournament in May and preparing for another event at Jones Intermediate School.
On Friday, the school will host a basketball bingo in the cafeteria. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with concessions for sale. Then the bingo games start at 6:30 p.m.
There will be a wide assortment of prizes including Thirty One Items, Scentsy and several gift cards, said Misty Boyer.
