Drew Wilson and Aaron Eubanks hit home runs to power East Surry over North Surry in the season finale Friday.

The Cardinals spoiled the Greyhounds’ Senior Night 13-3 in five innings.

Wilson pitched four innings of scoreless ball before giving up three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Caleb Whitaker got the start for North Surry, then Kyle Moser came on in the third inning and Austin Chandler threw the fifth.

North senior Ryan Stone hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to lead the Hounds.

“Obviously East Surry is good,” said Coach Travis Gammons, “but you could tell we haven’t been able to practice for 11 days.”

Because of the many showers over the past week and a half, the baseball field has been soggy. The team hasn’t been on its own diamond since Monday of last week, he said.

Gammons said he hated that the game went the way that it did for his seniors’ sake. The team has eight seniors who have given a lot to the program over the years.

Stone has been on the varsity squad all four years, and Ratcliff, Jacob Pelfrey and Chase Gough have three years on varsity.
