Tuesday’s rains affected baseball and tennis playoffs, creating a very busy day for local teams.
Three softball teams already were set to play today, and now boys teams will join them to make up for lost games.
Softball
North Stokes is the host school for the semifinals and final this year. The Vikings will hold the two semifinal games today and the conference final on Friday.
East Surry beat South Stokes to advance to the first semifinal game at 5:30 p.m. against West Stokes, which beat Bishop McGuinness Monday.
Surry Central beat North Surry to advance to the second game against North Stokes, which got a bye when Mount Airy folded its softball team. This game will follow the first game around 7:30 p.m. or 8 p.m.
Tennis
The Bears (13-3) did get their match in with East Wilkes (13-6) with one rain delay early in doubles play.
North Surry postponed its home match with Salisbury to today after two separate showers soaked the courts.
North Coach Drew Belton said he hopes to get started a little sooner than the 4 p.m. time just in case there are more showers today.
Baseball
While East Surry did get its game finished with Bishop, two other games with local teams were postponed.
Surry Central (12-12, 8-6) will host North Surry (9-10, 6-8) at 5 p.m. today, while Mount Airy (9-9, 6-8) plays at South Stokes (13-8, 9-5) at 7 p.m. (unless the teams choose to start earlier).
West Stokes is the host school for the semifinals and final again this year. The semis are Thursday at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., with the championship game Monday at 7 p.m.
East Surry plays in the first semifinal Thursday at 4:30 against the winner of South Stokes/Mount Airy.
The winner of West Stokes/North Stokes plays the 7 p.m. game against the winner of Surry Central/North Surry.
