• A Toast woman was arrested Sunday as a fugitive from justice, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. Nancy Anita Dalton, 35, of 372 Gravely St., was encountered at the police station and found to be a fugitive, but no information was contained in the arrest report about why Dalton was wanted or by which jurisdiction. She was held in the Surry County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond and is facing a May 14 District Court appearance.
• The larceny of a motor vehicle owned by Kathryn Mays Pruett of Ridgecrest Lane was reported Saturday. The 2007 burgundy Kia Spectra, valued at $15,000 and bearing tag number XZT1210, was taken from a residential location on Grace Street.
• Hannah Brooke Horton, 20, of 107 Kimberly St., was cited for larceny Saturday at Walmart, where she is accused of stealing allergy, pet and automotive products with a total value of $52. Horton, who has been banned from the store in addition to being cited, is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on June 5.
• William Andrew Elliott, 45, of 209 Mayberry Ave., is facing violations of resisting a public officer and being intoxicated and disruptive stemming from the investigation of a hit-and-run accident at Mayberry Apartments last Thursday. Elliott allegedly yelled obscenities at and otherwise was verbally abusive toward several people who witnessed the accident and had been warned several times about his use of profane language. He also resisted arrest for being drunk and disruptive by jerking away and attempting to run to his room, according to police records which state that the man was “assisted to the ground and handcuffed.” Elliott was held in the Surry County Jail under a $500 secured bond and is to appear in District Court next Wednesday.
• Items valued at $850 were stolen from the carport of Kathryn Spencer Griffin in the 2000-block of North Main Street on April 24. Taken were a Whirlpool dishwasher, stainless-steel sink, ceiling-fan motor and 20 electrical metal boxes, which had been placed inside the carport area while renovations were occurring to the home.
• A break-in of a motor vehicle was discovered on April 24 in which a Stihl chainsaw owned by Century Link and valued at $250 was stolen from a Chevrolet 4500 truck. The theft is said to have occurred while the truck was in a Main Street parking lot, although police records also state that it happened at an unknown location in Mount Airy during the work day.
• A motor vehicle break-in was discovered on April 24 at the home of Jill Eva Loftin on Old Springs Road, where her purse containing cash, a checkbook, Social Security card and driver’s license were stolen from an unsecured 2007 Honda Civic. All the valuables were recovered except the money, with the case listed as open for further investigation.
• Merchandise including Hanes T-shirts and boxer briefs and a fuel injector/carburetor cleaner was stolen from Dollar General on April 23 by an unknown suspect.
