Mrs. Laura Jean Chilton, age 77, of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Woltz Hospice Home. She was born September 1, 1934 in Surry County to the late Jim and Virginia Tolbert.

Mrs. Chilton served in the Air force; retired from Hanes Hosiery, and then she went on to drive for Yveddi; volunteered for Yolk Fellow and she was member of Friendly Chapel Church.

Mrs. Chilton is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Gerald Plaster of Pilot Mountain, Donna and Chuck Key of Mount Airy; two step-children, Lewis Wayne Chilton and wife Dorothy of King, Gail Jessup and husband Leon of Ararat, VA; seven grandchildren, Brandy Bondurant, Misty Burdo, Savannah Bailey, Holly Johnson, Tracy Jessup, Jared Jessup, Michael Chilton; three great-grandchildren, Kenyon Key, Kalia Burdo, Bryson Bailey; one brother, Dennis Tolbert of Mount Airy; one sister, Peggy Holt and husband Roger of Stuart, VA.

Mrs. Chilton was preceded in death by her husband Emmett Junior Chilton; daughter, Sherry Lee Massie; and one grandson, Jeremie McMillian.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Friendly Chapel Church with Bro. Don Collins and Bro. Roger Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors given by Mount Airy VFW Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain VFW Post 9436.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 21, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Friendly Chapel Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road Dobson, NC 27017.
