Westfield — Two children are reported in stable condition following an ATV accident Monday around 8 p.m. in the Slate Mountain Community.

Reportedly, the children were riding a dirt bike when the accident occurred. One victim, a 12-year-old, was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital from the McArthur Trailer Park off of Athey Simmons Road. The other victim, a 9-year-old, was transported from the scene and treated locally.

Emergency services workers would not release the names of the victims, citing privacy laws as the reason they could not. North Carolina Trooper Sonny Hiatt investigated the incident, which was later determined to not have occurred on a state roadway. Initial reports indicated that the two youths, who were treated and transported, were in the roadway when police arrived.
