TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. — A man that was registered for the first time as a sex offender in Surry County in May of 2003 was arrested Tuesday night in Louisiana.
According to Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson, it is believed that authorities in Tangipahoa Parish are investigating Terry Christopher Speaks, 39, of Kenner, La., in the death of a Bourbon Street stripper whose body parts washed ashore on the Mississippi Gulf Coast last week.
According to the Associated Press, another woman, Margaret Sanchez also of Kenner, La., was being held in a Louisiana jail and being questioned about the woman’s death.
The Hancock County, Miss., Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday the two were being held in Tangipahoa Parish on charges unrelated to the death of 22-year-old Jaren Lockhart. They had not been charged with Lockhart’s death.
Speaks, who had multiple aliases, was booked with aggravated assault and on fugitive warrants, according to official reports.
Hancock investigators say the two are seen on a video, accompanying Lockhart as she left the New Orleans club where she worked.
Atkinson said Speaks fled Surry County in 2005 to San Diego, Calif. He was arrested there in 2009 and was charged with failing to change his address as a sex offender, Atkinson said.
While on probation in 2011, Speaks “absconded to Pennsylvania,” said Atkinson. He disappeared from there and was missing until he was picked up by authorities last night.
Lockhart leaves behind a 3-year old daughter, Rylie, according to Action News 17 of Southern Louisiana.
According to further reports from Action News 17, authorities say the man and woman are not suspects in the death of Ms. Lockhart, but would like to know their identities and whereabouts as they solve this crime.
The couple seen in surveillance video arrived at the Temptations club on Bourbon Street at 1:47 a.m. on June 6, the morning of Lockhart’s disappearance. The couple then left with Lockhart 17-minutes later, according to Action News 17.
