The driver of a motorcycle that wrecked at 9:54 p.m. Wednesday was pronounced dead on the scene.
The accident occurred on Greenhill Road in sharp curve just south of the intersection with Montclaire Drive, near Cross Creek Country Club. According to Mount Airy Police Department Lt. Barry VanHoy, the motorcycle was traveling south on Greenhill Road and collided with a guardrail in the curve.
Officers declined to provide the name or age of the victim pending notification of relatives Wednesday night.
When medical and fire officials first arrived on the scene, they did begin CPR, but were unable to revive the male driver. VanHoy said the driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck.
Also responding to the scene were the Mount Airy Fire Department, Mount Airy Rescue Squad and Surry County EMS.
