NEW ORLEANS, La. — On Friday morning a man being questioned in the case of a French Quarter stripper’s death agreed to be extradited back to Surry County to face charges there.
Terry Christopher Speaks, 39, agreed Friday in a New Orleans court to go back to Surry County. He’s wanted here on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender.
Speaks was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in May of 2003 and sentenced to jail. He was released from prison in 2005. That’s when he allegedly failed to register as a sex offender, according to Sheriff Graham Atkinson.
Speaks and Margaret Sanchez of Kenner, La. are being questioned in the death of Jaren Lockhart, 23.
The couple were seen on a video from the club where Lockhart worked. They allegedly left with Lockhart early June 6, according to Hancock County investigators. They were arrested on Tuesday on unrelated charges.
Lockhart’s torso was found on the beach in Bay St. Louis, Miss., on June 7. Other body parts and remnants of her clothing were found Saturday on beaches in Christian, Miss., and Long Beach, Miss. She had been stabbed in the chest, but the precise cause of death remains unclear, authorities said.
According to Tangilena.com’s Editor Mark Mathes, Margaret Sanchez did not sign papers on Thursday that would transfer her from Tangipahoa Parish Jail to Hancock County, Miss. where the sheriff wants to continue questioning her and Speaks.
Lockhart was reported missing by her boyfriend when she failed to come home from work at the Bourbon Street strip club.
Evidence gathering continues. No charges had been filed in Lockhart’s death Friday afternoon, Mathes reported.
