DOBSON — Last year the first-ever 911 Parade in Dobson was so successful, rescue and fire personnel asked to hold the event again this year. It will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Central Surry Volunteer Fire Department is hosting the second annual event.

Only public safety vehicles, such as ambulances, fire trucks and rescue squad vehicles, and antique cars will be in the parade. No animals are allowed, according to Dobson Town Manager Josh Smith.

There will be more than 100 vehicles in the parade that will take about one hour to progress north on Main Street toward Draughn’s Auto Parts.

The parade line-up will be at Surry Central High School starting at 7 p.m.

Smith said there will be rescue vehicles in the parade from Surry County and surrounding counties in the parade.

Last year, the parade was held during the daytime, but this year, organizers decided to have it at night.

“People need to be mindful that side streets will be closed off during the parade. Those traveling in that area need to make alternate plans for their travels,” Smith said.
