A Hollywood starlet is set to get on a plane and travel to Mount Airy to appear at a fund-raiser for a local pregnancy clinic.

According to Brooke Worsley, director of The Legacy Center, actress and pro-life speaker Shari Rigby, who plays a birth mother in the recently-released “October Baby,” is coming to the area to share her testimony with attendees at the fund-raiser.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 4, from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church in Dobson.

Worsley said the stars aligned to get Rigby to the center for the event.

“The movie played at Creekside Cinemas for two weeks and we watched it as a Center activity,” she said. “As we were watching it, we knew we were planning for our fall fundraiser and at the end of the film (Rigby) offered her testimony.

“October Baby” is about a young girl who learns about life and goes on to discover things about herself, and it illustrates the sanctity of life through a heart-touching story.

A group associated with the Center works to help them secure speakers for events, and Worsley asked about Rigby.

“She’s available, her calendar was clear and she’s coming,” Worsley said.

The fundraiser is one of three major annual funding opportunities for the Center, which receives no local, state or federal dollars.

It will feature testimonies from Center clients, a dessert reception and an overview of activities and accomplishments from the past year.

While tickets are free, Worsley said they are required for admittance.

“People can call the Center to reserve the tickets, but that’s more for us to be able to get a count of how many people will be there and how much food we’ll need,” she said.

The Legacy Center assists people with unplanned pregnancies “to glorify God and promote the sanctity of life.” They assist and support women going through post-abortion syndrome, and help educate young people about the principals and practices of abstinence until marriage.

It is funded entirely through churches and individual donors. At the fundraiser, individuals can make a one-time donation, or pledge recurring donations throughout the year.

Worsley said she would love to get the word out about the services provided.

“We would love for as many people as we can get to come out and hear Shari and our clients and hear more about us and what we do to serve the community,” she said.

Worsley said she has a couple of copies of the film “October Baby” for churches or other groups who wish to view it before the fund-raiser.
