• Money and other valuables have been reported stolen in a break-in at a Mount Airy campground, according to city police department reports. The crime was discovered Sunday at Mayberry Campground on Byron Bunker Lane. Entry was gained to the business after a landscaping brick was used to break a window. An undisclosed sum of cash was taken along with an antique washboard and wash bucket valued altogether at $100.

• A similar crime was reported Saturday at a medical facility on North Main Street, Parkway Neurology, where a window was broken to gain entry. An undisclosed sum of currency was stolen from a money box in a file cabinet, with damage estimated at $110 occurring to the window and box.

• A Mount Airy man is facing charges of breaking and entering and larceny in connection with the theft of copper wire Sunday from an unidentified business property at 501 N. Main St. owned by Dean Bray. Justin Brent Moncus, 31, of 140-A Newsome St., was observed fleeing from the area as officers responded to a call involving the copper theft and was found in possession of stolen materials, police records state. Officers also discovered that Moncus was wanted on a separate offense of failing to appear in court which had been issued in April. He was held in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond, pending an Oct. 15 District Court appearance.

• Teofila Diana Ruiz, 18, of 147 Cone Lane, was cited for larceny Friday for allegedly taking personal hygiene products valued at $25 from Dollar General on North Andy Griffith Parkway. Ruiz is slated to be in Surry District Court on Oct. 10.

• Brittany Nicole King, 21, of 206 Catfish Trail, Lowgap, was cited for larceny Friday at Walmart, where she allegedly took unspecified merchandise that was recovered. King’s court date was set for Oct. 16.

• Two Trane air-conditioning units were discovered missing from Fancy Gap Baptist Church on West Lebanon Street last Wednesday. No value was listed for the stolen property.

• Terry Kay Easter, a resident of Locust Grove Lane, told police last Wednesday that she had left her purse at McDonald’s on North Andy Griffith Parkway and returned to find it gone. The loss included $80 in cash along with a debit card from the State Employees Credit Union, a driver’s license, a Social Security card and reading glasses, among other items.
