PILOT MOUNTAIN — Mount Airy’s tennis team stayed undefeated in the conference with a 9-0 sweep of East Surry Tuesday.
The Lady Bears continue to be on a roll. After a 9-0 sweep of perennial power Bishop McGuinness, they gave up just six games in both singles and doubles.
Second seed Davi Barbour was perfect for the day. She went 6-0, 6-0 over Brooke Tickle. Then she teamed with Haley Thomas to win 8-0 in doubles over Lauren Thompson and Tiffany King.
At the top spot, Jordan Jackson won 6-0, 6-1 over Thompson. Third seed Jade Hughes beat Haley Manuel 6-1, 6-0.
Fourth seed Thomas won 6-1, 6-0 over King.
Fifth seed Bree Hughes won 6-0, 6-1 over Allie Hawks.
Carley VanHoy won 6-0, 6-1 at the sixth slot over Hannah Haynes.
Jordan Jackson teamed with Bree Hughes to win 8-1 over Tickle and Manuel.
Jade Hughes and Elizabeth Dinkins swept Hawks and Haynes 8-0.
The Bears improved to 11-0 in the Northwest and 14-2 overall. They host North Surry on Thursday, then play Tuesday against a Salisbury team that thrashed the Bears in the preseason.
The Cardinals fall to 5-5 after the loss and a rain makeup on Monday with South Stokes.
The Cards swept the Lady Sauras 9-0.
Thompson won 6-0, 6-1. Tickle won 6-2, 6-2. Manuel won 6-0, 6-1.
King won 6-1, 6-2. Hawks won 6-3, 6-2, and Haynes won 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Tickle and Manuel won 8-1. Thompson and King won 8-5. Hawks and Haynes won 8-5.
