PILOT MOUNTAIN — East Surry beat Mount Airy 3-0 Tuesday in the Cardinals’ Dig Pink game for cancer.
“We came out playing very well,” said East Coach Caleb Gilley. The Lady Cards won the first two sets against a Mount Airy team that played well, he said.
“We did a good job of blocking, hitting, passing,” he said. “Everything looked good.”
East Surry won those sets 25-17 and 25-19.
“Mount Airy served really well, especially in set three,” Gilley said.
The Cards were a little sloppy, and the Lady Bears were able to stay in the game until the end when East prevailed 26-24.
The girls have to keep their focus through a whole match, the coach said. They haven’t done a good job of that this season, but hopefully they will improve in that area by playoff time.
Keri Fulp led the Cards with 19 kills, seven blocks and three service aces.
Olivia Sheets had 28 assists, seven digs, two kills and two aces.
Kacie Markle had six digs, five kills and five aces. Destiny Edmonds had four kills, four digs and three blocks.
Sydney Mosley led all Cards with 15 digs, while Laken Bowman and Jessica Barker had six each.
Ashley Smith had three kills, three digs and three assists.
East Surry played at Winston-Salem Prep on Wednesday, but results were not available by press time.
The Cards play again today, hosting West Stokes. The Bears travel to North Surry.
