DANBURY — The Lady Eagles bounced back from a tough loss to Alleghany to defeat North Stokes 3-1.

The Lady Vikings took the first set 25-14.

“We hadn’t gotten off the bus yet,” joked Coach Carrie Hutchens. “We weren’t warmed up yet.”

Once the Eagles got going, Hutchens said the team had much better passing than against Alleghany and that led to some amazing attacks at the net.

North Stokes had good floor coverage, so it was hard to get kills, but the girls kept attacking and eventually found holes, Hutchens said.

Surry Central took the next three games 25-18, 25-21 and 25-20.

Brittany Lewis and Courtney Hegler were big at the net. Lewis led the team with 12 kills and Hegler had eight. Kaitlin Kidd added 11 kills, Cassidy Joyner seven and Meagan Hutson had three setter dunks.

Hutson provided 18 assists, Kidd seven and Holly Mason four.

Libero Kendra Johnson was huge on the back line, according to the coach. She finished with 23 digs. Joyner had 13, Hegler 11 and Kidd nine.

The blocks were much better in this match, Hutchens believed.

The blocks affected North Stokes’ attacks. Kidd and Lewis had two stuff blocks each.

The serve percentage was very high again, with the Eagles getting 73 of 80 in play (91 percent).

Joyner was 17-19 with two aces, and Johnson was 15-16 and one ace. Also, Hutson went 16-18, Hegler 9-10 with an ace, Kidd 6-6 and Lewis 5-6.

On Tuesday, the Eagles host Mount Airy in their annual Dig Pink game for cancer awareness. Then they host East Surry on Thursday.
