Tuesday was Surry Central’s Think Pink game to raise money for cancer research and awareness.
DOBSON — Surry Central’s Lady Golden Eagles volleyball team won three consecutive matches in a row against the Mount Airy Lady Bears Tuesday
Coach Carrie Hutchens attributed the win to her Eagles team playing its “A Game.”
The Golden Eagles trumped the Bears 25-7, 25-21 and 25-19.
Hutchens said before the game that she expected them to win by playing their game in their own rhythm which consists of delivering their unique combination of hits, blocks, passes and effective sets. This combination is known as being on their “A Game,” said Hutchens.
Kim Lyons, head coach of the Lady Bears, said that she was disappointed with the Lady Bears’ performance overall.
“We did not play up to our potential,” she said. The Lady Bears made several hard rallies while taking the lead in two of the matches only to give those up in several hard lost volleys.
Lyons said that she was upset by this lack of effort but was encouraged by some of the coverage that she saw at the net as well as competitive volleying efforts against the Golden Eagles. She said it is defense that wins games and she will be looking forward to her young team competing hard in the future by staying focused and fighting for every point.
For the Eagles, Brittany Lewis led the team with 10 kills. Hegler had eight kills, Kelsey Taylor 6, Cassidy Joyner 3 and Tori Blevins 2.
The top servers for the Bears were Taylor Dollyhigh 11-12, Kathryn Beasley 7-7 and Charli Hiatt 7-7. Tessa Rodgers led with nine assists and Hiatt had four digs.
The game was complimented by the many who came out for pink night showing support for cancer research and awareness.
The Eagles will face East Surry at home Thursday, while Mount Airy is at home today against Alleghany.
