DOBSON — Mount Airy downed Surry Central 9-0 in a tennis match postponed from Tuesday.
Both teams rested their top seeds, bringing the others up a slot. That didn’t slow down the Lady Bears who weren’t seriously challenged in any matches.
With Central’s Savannah Wilson and Mount Airy’s Jordan Jackson out, the top seeds were Marlee Wilmoth and Davi Barbour. The Bears’ Barbour won 6-1, 6-2.
Jade Hughes won 6-1, 6-0 over Megan Gillespie. Haley Thomas swept Kennedy Dockery 6-0, 6-0.
Bree Hughes defeated Mikayla Cox 6-0, 6-1. Carley VanHoy won 6-1, 6-3 over Abby Samuels.
At the sixth spot, the Bears’ Abby Hagwood topped Sommer Chilton 6-0, 6-3.
In doubles, Barbour and Thomas won 8-0 over Gillespie and Samuels.
Jade Hughes and Elizabeth Dinkins won 8-1 over Wilmoth and Chilton.
Bree Hughes and VanHoy won 8-2 over Dockery and Cox.
The Bears improved to 16-2, 13-0 in the Northwest Conference with one match to go. Mount Airy finishes the regular season at home today against South Stokes.
The Bear seniors are Jordan Jackson, Jade Hughes, Elizabeth Dinkins and Blair Holcomb.
Like Mount Airy, the Eagles will celebrate Senior Night today against visiting East Surry.
The three seniors for Central are Savannah Wilson, Megan Gillespie and Abby Samuels.
