The deadline is fast approaching for advance registration for a first-of-its kind Amazing Women’s Conference in Mount Airy.

The event, entitled Purpose in You, is set to be held on Nov. 3 at the Andy Griffith Playhouse, 218 Rockford St.

In an effort to fit into women’s busy schedules, it will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., according to organizer Liz Gwyn.

Gwyn, the author of the book “Amazing Stories of Life After Death,” will headline the event, which also will feature an address by former Miss America contestant Jane Herlong, the author of books including “Bare Feet in High Heels” and “What TaTas Teach Us.”

Herlong is described by Gwyn as “someone who has a great story to tell.”

“We’re important,” she said. “And I want to talk about how God, through different phases of our lives, will have different purposes for us.”

The event, billed as a Christian conference, also will feature worship music by Kim Walker Smith and Mount Airy resident Jessi Lanae.

According to Gwyn, the event is something whose time has come.

“I decided to do the Amazing Women’s Conference because I hear a lot of women saying they need someone to specifically reach out to them,” she said. “They’re so busy and often their needs are not met. It takes a woman to reach a woman.”

She said she hopes that women will attend to hear a positive message delivered to them, for them.

“I decided that I’d like to reach out to both women and young ladies in a way that speaks to women,” she said. “That’s why the conference is from 2 until 6. It will give them time to get things done in the morning and then get back to their families in the evening.”

While men are welcome, the conference is tailored to women.

“I’d just like to encourage everyone to come out,” Gwyn said, “and let them know that this is specifically going to reach their needs as women.”

The event cost is $10 per person if registered by this Friday. After that date, the cost will be $12 per person.

Checks or money orders can be mailed to Gwyn at P.O. Box 29, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
