The Mount Airy Downtown Business Association will host its fifth and final cruise-in for 2012 this Saturday in downtown. The cruise-in is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m.
All the 2012 events have seen big turnouts with classic cars stretching the length of North Main Street from Pine Street to Independence Boulevard encompassing side streets as well.
An additional highlight of this year’s cruise-ins has been the entertainment provided by WSYD AM 1300. The station, whose format is oldies, provides two DJs for each of the cruise-ins to play requests, judge dance contests and announce winners for the various cruise-in contests. Plaques are awarded for the classic car from the farthest away, the oldest and ladies’ pick.
Door prizes are given away and a 50/50 raffle winner will be awarded at the end of the cruise-in.
The Mayberry Cruise-in is a free event made possible by the Downtown Business Association, BB&T, Smith’s Auto Parts, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Moody Funeral Service, Mount Airy Visitors Center and Vanishing Point Rods & Restoration, with special thanks to the Mayberry Cruisers who help coordinate the event.
Many of the downtown businesses will be open late during the cruise-in and Main Street remains open to traffic for those who wish to cruise on down. Call the Downtown Business Association at 786-4511 for more information.
Other downtown entertainment Saturday evening includes the monthly “Voice of the Blue Ridge” concert at the Earle Theatre at 7:30 p.m., featuring Travis Frye & Blue Mountain and the Zephyr Lightning Bolts.
