PILOT MOUNTAIN — With elections coming up on Nov. 6, there will be a chance to get to know the candidates better on Thursday when a forum will be held for Pilot Mountain residents who are still undecided about who they will be voting for in the town commissioners race with two seats open.

The forum will be at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium at the Armfield Civic Center on the U.S. 52 By-Pass.

Mayor Pro-Tem and retiring Commissioner Carolyn Boyles will be the moderator for the event.

There are six candidates running for the seats that are coming open because Boyles and Commissioner Andrew French decided not to run for office this time.

The candidates are Scott Needham, George Gray, Dwight Atkins, Doug Brannon, Larry Wall and Cordie Armstrong.

According to Pilot Mountain Town Manager Homer Dearmin, each candidate will have three minutes for an opening statement. Boyles will then ask each candidate four questions. Candidates will be given two minutes each to answer those questions. Candidates will round out the forum with a two-minute closing statement.

“Candidates have been asked to remain at the center following the forum, so that audience members will have an opportunity to meet with them,” said Dearmin.

He said preceding the forum, there will be an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Armfield Civic Center for residents to review the town’s newly developed pedestrian plan.
