MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Almeda Mitchell Park, 93, of Mount Airy, passed away on Monday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Surry County on Dec. 30, 1918, to the late John Sherman Mitchell and the late Lucy Ellen Hodges Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Homer Park; two sisters, an infant twin sister and Callie Mitchell; two brothers, Jacob Mitchell and Warren Mitchell; and two nephews, Johnny Mitchell and Tony Mitchell. She was retired from Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fla., and was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are one sister-in-law, Dorothy Mitchell of Dobson; several nieces and nephews, her guardian niece, Sandra and David Martin, in addition Dink and Karen Mitchell, Sharon and Ricky Adkins, Wanda Dobbins, Grady Mitchell, Roy Mitchell, Randy and Angel Mitchell; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The Rev. Robert McCreary will conduct the services. The family will receive friends on Thursday from noon until the time of the service at the church, and at other times the home of her sister-in-law, Dorothy Mitchell, 2155 Prison Camp Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church or the Mountain Valley Hospice Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
