PILOT MOUNTAIN — Mr. John Andy “Jay” Niten, 68, of Pilot Mountain, widower of the late JoAnn Vaden Niten, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on March 25, 1944, in Patrick County, VA., to the late Joseph Otto and Nannie Young Niten. Mr. Niten was a furniture craftsman for Brady Furniture in Rural Hall, was a fork lift driver for Crest Tobacco Company and a member of Brown Mountain Baptist Church, Westfield. Mr. Niten is survived by one daughter, Priscilla Ann Niten of Mount Airy; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Lee (Ann) Niten of Winston-Salem and James Benny (Joyce) Niten of Walnut Cove; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia N. (Frank) Beasley of Rural Hall, Nellie I. Calhoun of Westfield and Allene (Thaxton) Harrison of Westfield; brother-in-law, Roy Southern of Walnut Cove; very special friends, Myrtle and Roy Lowman and Cary Beasley; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Niten was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one sister, Mary Southern; and one brother-in-law, Johnny Calhoun. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Brown Mountain Baptist Church with Bro. Don Collins and the Rev. Roger Vaden officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the Rev. Eddie Carter officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home and other times at the home of Frank and Virginia Beasley in Rural Hall.
