WALNUT COVE — Surry Central’s Wes Brown made a return to the field, but the Golden Eagles couldn’t stop South Stokes in a 52-14 loss in the season finale.

Brown broke his leg in the first game of the season and has been watching from the sidelines for two-and-a-half months. The reigning offensive player of the year went into the game on defense in the first half. Then in the third quarter he played offense for the first time and scored on a short touchdown run that made the score 32-14.

The Sauras scored twice off turnovers, the first coming when the Eagles had a promising drive in the first quarter.

South Stokes led 7-0, but the Eagles could have tied the game. However, the Sauras picked up a fumble and scored for a 14-0 lead. The defense provided another score late in the third quarter.

With the team traveling back from Walnut Cove, further game details were not available at press time.
