DOBSON — Officials Tuesday identified the victim of a single car, storm-related fatality Monday night as Jody Alan Davis, 25, of Old Hwy. 601, Mount Airy.

Emergency crews, as well as power crews and the North Carolina Highway Patrol, responded to the scene of the weather-related fatal wreck on Prison Camp Road.

According to information from 1st Sgt. Kevin Barker of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Davis was killed when a large oak tree fell in front of his Ford Ranger pick-up truck as it traveled near 1437 Prison Camp Road toward Dobson, roughly two miles below the North Carolina Department of Transportation Center.

Barker said after striking the first tree, the truck went off the left side of the road and struck another tree. Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. Barker said the accident was, no doubt, related to the high winds in the area from Hurricane Sandy.

Surry County Emergency Services Director John Shelton said speed did not appear to be a factor in the accident. He said the driver had no time to react.

Traffic was routed along Old County Home Road around the scene, where live power lines were downed as well.
