Name: Paul Matthew Johnson

Age: 51

Profession: Heating and cooling contractor and county farmer.

Political History: Has served as Surry County commissioner for 16 years.

Why are you seeking this office?

Because I feel like there’s a lot of unfinished work that I need to stay on top of that benefits the citizens of Surry County, and I want to see these projects through.

How do you feel you can help residents of Surry County if you are re-elected?

I already have the knowledge, experience and research down and think I can hit the ground running on another term.

I feel like I’ve proven that I am dedicated to service to the county, and simply want a chance to continue that service.

Is there one issue you feel isn’t being addressed or you would like to specifically focus on if elected to another term?

Of course, the biggest issue we have to stay focused on is the economy and recruiting businesses to come to the county.

We’ve been doing that since I’ve been there, but we may be doing a little bit better today and I’d like to see that positive trend continue.

We have a great relationship with the Department of Commerce in Raleigh, and have developed relationships with both our federal and state leaders and we need to continue that.

What would you like to say to the voters of Surry County?

I’d like to thank them for the confidence they’ve had in me for the past 16 years, and ask that they continue that confidence for four more years.

I’d love to say I’m the hardest working county commissioner that’s on the board, and just because I’m a year older doesn’t mean that I’m not going to work just as hard or harder over the next four years, because I’m running to serve the people.
