Wanting an end to political season

Let me get this out of the way right now: At this point in the election season, I’m absolutely over politics, politicians and all the stuff associated with this year’s general election.

Already this morning I’ve been asked how I’m doing several times, and each time I’ve delivered the following reply: “Sick of politics.”

And this year’s election has been one for the record books.

From early voting numbers that are higher than I ever imagined to the in-fighting and backbiting that often accompanies the American political process, this election has certainly kept political writers flush with copy. And headaches.

In addition, there was the increased local coverage required by the death of Sen. Don East, which resulted in a bit of he said-she said and confusion both in the Republican Party and here at the paragraph factory.

Which is understandable, since after (quite a bit) more than a decade of writing about government and politics, the process for replacing East on the ballot was something I’d never encountered.

So stick a fork in me. I’m done with it.

But with that being said, this year’s election season also resulted in a demonstration of democracy in action in its purest form.

While sick of the fact that today’s political machine precludes any factual statements from any candidate (or any factual information, for that matter), what I witnessed Sunday afternoon at Republican Headquarters at least breathed a little sunshine into this jaded reporter’s soul.

I’m talking, of course, about the nomination of Shirley Randleman to replace East on the ticket. Well, not the nomination itself, rather the process involved in said nomination.

It was something every student in civics class should witness.

It involved strict guidelines and a little bit of math to “weight” votes according to the number of registered Republicans in each county, but the process itself was inspiring.

More than 50 delegates representing Wilkes, Stokes and Surry counties came together for the nomination, which was overseen by the executive director of the North Carolina Republican Party.

They gathered, nominated East’s ballot replacement from the floor, and cast their votes. If a clear winner wasn’t named, the lowest vote-getter was eliminated and the process began anew.

Sitting there in the room and watching the votes take place, it was easy to forget the importance of the process.

While the delegates laughed, joked and sipped on sodas as state Republican officials tallied the votes, it was almost lost on me that these regular citizens were choosing someone who could very easily change the course of the state’s history.

But that is our political process, and such a breath of fresh air went a long way toward helping me keep my lunch down in the face of all the negative campaigning and partisan maneuvering these days.

Now, lets get this election over with so perhaps I can get some rest.

This is the most iportant election sihce John Kennedy. We are involved in wars in the middle east with plans to quit in 2014 win or lose. The opinions in the country are split like nothing since the Civil War. We are looking at financial collapse and a two party government in which one party won't talk to the other out of sheer idelogy. We are voting to re-elect a president who has violated the Constitution several times and makes his own rules. There is no background to trace on him and questions about his background still haven't been answered four years later.

WW1944, It was an important election. The biggest problem I saw was it has now turned this country into THE SOLIALIST STATES OF AMERIKA. I can say I have been affiliated with R,D,& Unafiliated. I know what they stand for. We are still a Christian Country in my heart but it seems that Satan has definately taken a lead in Politics in America. I prayed 40 days and nights for GOD to bless America with a new LEADER. It must have been his will because I did not get what I prayed for. Christians will suffer with this Dictator in the White House again. He repackaged his same old lies and the Free Stuff people took the bait again for fear of having to work for a living and have self respect.

What are we to do now that the election is over and nothing has changed? It's the same today as it was on Monday. Simply put, we are doomed, and I do mean doomed for a long time.

Fast and Furious and The Benghazi murders should have awakened the real thinkers in this country. I am upset with our Leaders in CONGRESS. They only want to be elected and receive $174,000 per year to do nothing but put a pacifer in your mouth. Looks like they are doing that job well. I pray to my GOD not allah that they get busy and IMPEACH this guy early on. If not I see a REVOLUTION in the making. Laugh if you want to, but I think it is coming. Over 50% of the people are tired of this that we see and hear and wanted a change, but got nothing but more of the same.

The people that voted "o" back in office will soon see that they made a big mistake. Then those will say, Why did I vote for this. It's already done and you will feel the pain. You will get what you asked for and I do not feel sorry for you a bit. You made your bed and now sleep in it, along with the fleas. I will not donate my money to help any cause except for the American Legion. They don't receive big ( CEO ) pay checks for their service to the people. Unicef, United Way, and others you will suffer. Check this out if you have a computer. Don't take my word for it. I just had a thougt! Call your Congressman Howard Coble and tell him to get busy with the Impeachment Process along with Richard Burr and Kay Hagen. Our Senators are useless on this issue because they are corrupted too. We are now Sheeple! Be vigilant in all of your undertakings with all you come in contact with and remember to meet on the level and part on the square.

One more thing! If I see a person in real need that is not an Obama Supporter, I will help them. I will not help any that believe in Socialism, period. I am a proud American and will ask you upfront to see what your beliefs are. So answer that question wisely if you happen to be the one needing help. All others call Social Services.
