To the Editor,

A great season of Mount Airy football came to end this past Friday (Nov. 16) to a very good Monroe team in the third round of the State playoffs. The better team won on this night but what a great ride it was over the past 14 weeks.

This was from a team that was picked to finish somewhere in the middle of the Conference and really was not expected to do much. But through hard work by both players and a very good coaching staff, the Bears won the conference title and of course had a very good playoff run. This group was part of a State title appearance (‘09), a 1A Western regional title and won the Conference championship 3 of the 4 years they were together and they were within 2 wins of heading back to Raleigh.

I tell people that the Football program at Mount Airy has several things in its favor: good players each year that put forth the hard work and effort needed, community and school support and without a doubt, one of the best coaching staffs one could ask for. So when you see one of the players or Coaches that made this season so special, give them a “THANKS” and let them know how great a run they had and how special it is to be a Mt. Airy Bear!! Go Bears!!
