Mrs. Lorene White Holyfield, 76, formerly of Dobson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living Facility of Kernersville. She was born in Surry County on May 8, 1936 to the late Gilbert L. and Minnie L. Davis White. Mrs. Holyfield was a past Surry County Register of Deeds, worked on Surry County Board of Elections and the former owner and operator of Ideal Florist. She was true southern lady who impacted the lives of many. She leaves to cherish her memory, a sister, Mary Ann Stanley and a brother, Gilbert “G.L.” White, Jr. She was married to the love of her life for fifty years, George Nathaniel Holyfield who preceded her in death in 2010. In her own words, “not by choice, but no children were born of this marriage” but she loved her many nieces and nephews as her own. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Eva Stanley and Iva Marie White, Mattie Durham, Ola Parks and Inez McDaniels and three brothers, Adam G. White, William Elguy White and Herbert G. White. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 in the chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home by Dr. Andy Atkins with burial to follow in Fairview Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday December 4, 2012. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Kerner Ridge Assisted Living, Horizons Memory Care Unit, for their loving and compassionate care.
