Staff Report

The Mount Airy Police Department is seeking information concerning a burglary, robbery and assault reported late Sunday on Oak Street, which left two people injured.

City officers responded early Monday to a residence at 503 E. Oak St., where complainants advised that two Hispanic males had forced their way in just before midnight Sunday.

One of the suspects was armed with a handgun, and the two stole an undisclosed sum of money and personal belongings.

Two of the home’s occupants suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident, with one victim treated at Northern Hospital of Surry County and released.

One of the suspects was identified as a former employee of the Asian House restaurant on U.S. 601, but his name was unknown as of Monday. The Hispanic male is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall and heavyset, weighing about 200 pounds.

He had shoulder-length curly hair and possibly goes by the name “Amigo.” Little information was provided about the second suspect other than he is a Hispanic male.

Anyone having information about the incident or the identity of the suspects is encouraged to call Mount Airy Crime Stoppers at 786-4000.
