A 56-year-old Thurmond man is behind bars after police executed a search warrant and discovered a marijuana grow room in his home, Sheriff Graham Atkinson announced Tuesday.

David Marcland Davis, of 123 Possum Trot Valley Lane in Thurmond, has been charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, the manufacture of marijuana, maintaining a drug house and the possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff.

The incident began following a citizen’s complaint, Atkinson said.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office executed a search warrant at the Possum Trot Valley Lane residence of Davis last Friday.

“During the search, officers located 50 marijuana plants growing inside the residence, along with several baggies of processed marijuana,” Atkinson said. “An upstairs bedroom had been converted into a grow room that included grow lights and timers.”

According to the sheriff, the timers would allow the lights to operate at specific times.

“Officers determined during their investigation that the grow room had been used to grow marijuana several times before,” Atkinson said.

Davis was booked into the Surry County Jail under a $20,000 secured bond.
