DOBSON — An ongoing investigation by the Surry County Sheriff’s Office into methamphetamine production in the county resulted in the closure of one meth lab and one man’s arrest Wednesday evening.
Sheriff Graham Atkinson said deputies and members of the State Bureau of Investigation Clandestine Meth Team served a search warrant at the home of Johnny Ray Bowman, 43, at 419 Ash Hill Road, Ararat.
“They found an active, one-pot style methamphetamine lab, along with evidence of several previous labs set up in various rooms of the house,” the sheriff said. “They also found precursor chemicals — sulphuric acid and lithium — and marijuana growing in the residence.”
Atkinson said a countywide investigation into meth production yielded information that led narcotics officers to Bowman’s home.
Bowman has been charged with the manufacture of methamphetamine, manufacture of marijuana, possession of precursor chemicals (to manufacture of methamphetamine), maintaining a drug dwelling, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer.
He is being held in the Surry County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond.
